After eight years, five investments, and numerous awards, Wharton’s student-led impact investing group is ready for something new — and applications are now open.
We are pleased to re-introduce the Wharton Impact Investing Partners, rebranded with a new name and new website to better reflect where the organization is going and growing.
Formerly known as the Wharton Social Venture Fund (WSVF), the organization is an award-winning student impact investment group and training opportunity housed under the Wharton Social Impact Initiative. Wharton Impact Investing Partners, or WIIP, simulates a professional investment firm; members source and conduct diligence on early and expansion-stage companies with venture-grade growth potential and intentional, measurable social impact.
Since its origins in 2007, the group has focused on companies in education, energy, health and wellness, food and nutrition, environmental sustainability, and financial inclusion. WIIP also annually competes in the MBA Impact Investing Network & Training Program (MIINT) where it has an impressive track record of success.
“This development marks both a commitment to our traditional model — sourcing, conducting diligence, and investing in early-stage companies pursuing both financial and social returns — as well as to more broadly embrace and advance the impact investing sector,” explains WIIP co-president Jennifer Wong in a blog post announcing the rebrand.
“While our organization has historically been a leader among MBA programs, we recognize the need to evolve alongside the impact investing market and capture the energy of our large and growing membership….This announcement precedes an expansion of our mandate, both on- and off-campus. We plan to launch WIIPSmart, our very own thought leadership platform aimed to expand the resources available to MBAs pursuing the various areas of impact investing.”
Interested in getting involved? WIIP applications for the 2016-2017 academic year are now open. Through a highly selective process, new members—both MBAs and undergraduates—are chosen based on commitment, experience, and industry knowledge. WIIP provides high-quality training on the investment process, impact investing, and portfolio management.
You can read more about the rebranding on the new website, and while you’re at it, browse WIIP’s historical timeline, leadership team, and portfolio.
Applications are open now through Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at noon. Candidates will be interviewed on campus between September 19-21, 2016. To learn more about WIIP’s process, catch up on a recent student info session presentation
