Jonathan-GreenblattWSII is pleased to welcome the White House’s Jonathan Greenblatt to Wharton, where he will serve as a Senior Fellow and guest lecturer for the semester. He is considered one of the leading experts in the country on social innovation and shared value, and will be a valuable resource for students during his time here. Stay tuned for upcoming lunches and lectures.

Stephanie Kim, Wharton Social Impact Initiative’s Manager of Community Impact, shared five lessons from the process of developing, refining, and growing an effective student fellowship program. This semester, the fellowship continues, with new positions launching February 1. Visit our social impact job board for new listings, including MBA and undergrad positions in impact investing, community development, operations, and consulting and more.

The Spark program is seeking new mentors for the 2015 spring semester. Building on Spark’s collaboration with the Wharton Social Impact Initiative and Penn’s support of the Lea School, we are seeking mentors to host students from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons starting in February. Interested graduate or MBA students, or current Penn staff members, should contact jschroder@sparkprogram.org or sandhunt@wharton.upenn.edu for more information.

Save the date for the 2015 Wharton Social Innovators Conference, to be held February 21 on campus. Organized by the Wharton Social Impact Club, this student-run event (previously named the Social Impact Conference) is “dedicated to bringing the community together to explore social innovation within corporations and in the social impact world.”

Our visiting Social Impact Practitioner is staying for another semester. Bill Clark, W’74, will meet with students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and other times by appointment. Sign up online.

Nonprofit Board Fellows Information Sessions

Jan 20-21, Noon to 1 p.m., SHDH 211: The Wharton Leadership Program invites students to this afternoon info session to learn more about nonprofit governance, local community opportunities, and how to become a board member. As a Board Fellow students receive training to be matched with a local non-profit organization based on interests and experience. Attend one of two sessions to learn more about the program, the application process, and how fellows can have an impact on a nonprofit board in Philadelphia. kaufd@wharton.upenn.edu with questions.

Interview Prep Session: Social Impact

Jan 21, Noon to 1:30 p.m., JMHH F45: Preparing for interviews already? Join MBA Career Management and the Second Year career fellows to discuss what it is like to interview for social impact positions. Topics will include industry-specific tips and tactics and typical interview questions and how to formulate good answers. RSVP on Careerpath.

Business Plan Writing 101 – Wharton Entrepreneurship Wednesdays

 workshop presented by Wharton Entrepreneurship, students will focus on what is required to write an effective business plan — including tips for social entrepreneurs or other ventures.

The workshop will be led by Wharton Lecturer Patrick FitzGerald, C’97, Managing Director of DreamIt Ventures, and a veteran entrepreneur who has participated in the foundation or expansion of a variety of businesses; Most notably, he founded RecycleBank, Philadelphia Distilling, Shopiks, Carbonrally, Philly Car Share and ReProduct.
